BEST ALL-AROUND BURGER Marigold's Cafe & Bakery 4605 Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs 719.599.4776 We arrived around 11:30 on a weekday recently, and the restaurant was already beginning to fill up. I ordered a cheeseburger "medium", and I was pleasantly surprised to see that provolone and blue cheese were among the cheese options, as well as Swiss and cheddar. The burger came perfectly cooked, the bun was freshly baked, and the choice of provolone cheese made for a perfect burger! The seasoned French fries were tasty, and our very accommodating server checked on us several times to make sure we had enough of everything, and always with the most cheerful demeanor and smile. 2ND PLACE Black Forest Foods Cafe & Deli 140 Second St, Monument 719.203.4436 We originally tried the Classic Burger made with grass-fed beef. Everything about this burger was delicious: the beef, the bun, the greens, and the garlic aioli; however, they recently changed the bun and instead of greens, it's now iceberg lettuce, which has moved this burger to 2nd Place. The sweet potato fries were delicious, and in addition we ordered a side of tater tots, which was large enough to feed a small family! The service is impeccable and very friendly. What a delightful dining experience!
Their pancakes are fluffy and flavorful
with "very cool" syrup bottles for pouring. Honestly, I could just eat
the Loaded Hash Browns and be happy - with bacon, green onions, melted
cheese, and jalapenos - yumm! One person at our table ordered the
Steak & Eggs and proclaimed it delicious! The service was great - our
server was wonderfully accommodating! BEST GOURMET ENCHILADA The
Portobello Spinach & Cheese enchilada with the Tomatillo Alfredo sauce was a
taste sensation! The accompanying saffron rice was a nice change from
Spanish rice, as were the pinto beans. We had to eat every bite!
For hungry eaters! The steak is 10
ounces and tender, the gravy is flavorful. Comes with soup or salad,
muffin, vegetable and choice of potato.
The Mushu Chicken and Walnut Prawns
were both excellent with sizeable portions. Jasmine offers a lunch
portion of the Walnut Prawns as well. We also tasted the Sesame Tofu
and Kung Pao Chicken which were both delicious.
For many years our favorite has
been the Dutch Lunch. Comes with four kinds of deli meat, cheese,
pepperoncini, lettuce, tomato with an Italian Roll. You make it the
way you like it! We always ask for House Italian dressing, mayo
and mustard - delicious combo!
Although it's a bit of a drive,
Juniper Valley Ranch is a unique dining experience in a cozy stucco
farmhouse with meals served family style, including appetizer, main
course with several sides, and dessert. The fried chicken is
consistently good, but the handmade biscuits are to die for!! No
chance you'll go away hungry. Don't forget to visit the gift shop out
back.
We've always loved the homemade
soups here. When possible, made with locally grown fresh ingredients,
and seasoned appropriately (the flavors aren't masked with too much
salt).
This is our hands-down favorite! Fish is
always fresh. Service is friendly and prompt. Atmosphere is pleasant.
We can't convince ourselves to go anywhere else.
To be honest, I always order the
Massaman Curry, because it is so fabulous. I recently tasted a
friend's order of Red Curry and it was delicious. Other friends
habitually order the Som Tum Salad, and insist that Thai Mint serves
the best Thai food in town. |
