Where do locals go to escape the
Waikiki crush? Just over the mountain to the hang-loose town
of Kailua and Pinky's Pupu Bar & Grill.
In 2001, Windward residents saw
the return of this familiar name built near the former Pinky's
Broiler. Its pure beach house decor fits right into Kailua.
The family-casual menu is local all the way with an extensive pupu menu (perfect portions for kids). |

"Kailua has some of the finest
restaurants on the island and, for those liking night life,
there is fun and funky Pinky's Pupu Bar and Grill where you
can mingle with the locals." www.vacationhomes.com |

"TAKE A LOOK at some of the
food offerings at Pinky's ... There is a pupu menu available,
with items like kalua pig or cheese quesadillas, vegetable
spring rolls, fish tacos, coconut crunchy calamari and crab
dip all catching my eye. I ended up ordering the pupu-style
prime rib and an order of cheesy fries, while my friend went
with the beer can chicken. The prime rib was tasty and the cut
didn't have a lot of fat, and the beer can chicken just got
better and better. The Barfly took a night off from Bud Light
this week, opting instead for an 18-ounce schooner of Sam
Adams to start things off. That was followed by a glass of
Moku Manu Punch, which instantly conjured up memories of
making (and drinking) jungle juice at parties during my
college years. A number of domestic and microbrew bottled
beers are also available, and I got a kick out of seeing the
Flat Island Iced Tea listed on the menu as homage to the
Kailua landmark." Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Barfly, Jason
Genegabus, January 16, 2004 |

"With a name and a location that bring memories of a
long-ago favorite restaurant (Pinky's Broiler closed in the
early 1980s), this new Pinky's offers livelier night life than
the windward side usually sees, plus the food is good! Set
beside a canal, the restaurant is decorated in art deco
Hawaiiana (rattan, canoe paddles, sculptured fish and tiki
torches) is brightly lit, even around a horseshoe- shaped bar
near the entrance. Besides about 25 appetizers and mixed
ohana platters big enough to serve a family, the
menu offers generous portions of kalbi ribs
with papaya marinade, fresh fish tacos, prime rib, chicken
entrees and Hawaiian food plates." www.traveltraveltravel.com |
