At Monica’s, the most
original Mexican restaurant in Texas, things are not always what they appear
to be! Monica's Aca y Alla features wonderful “Mexico City” and Tex-Mex
specialties.
Yet, you might think you were in a fine, trendy European restaurant!
Hints of Italy and Spain surround you, while scents of Asia fill your
senses-you are here and there!

in the city in 1993, and voted Best
Margarita in Town by the Dallas Observer, Monica's has established itself as a
local favorite. The menu has outstanding specialties
like Chili-Pumpkin Ravioli, Black Bean Pepper Steak and the popular Mexican Lasagna.
In addition, Monica's features fresh fish, light gourmet dishes, and low-fat Tex-Mex fare.

"Cool
counts, but eating ranks as the primary activity at a restaurant, and the food
at Monica's stands up to the task. It is Mexican with Mediterranean accents –
upscale, but not so upscale that it is pricey or intimidating. You get more than
the standard enchilada combination plate, but not so much more that you can't
afford it or figure out what it is.
Mexican
lasagna ($9.99), a hallowed favorite, shoots right down the middle: Laden with
chunks of chicken, black beans and corn layered between corn tortillas, the dish
crossed Mexican and Italian elements in a sloppy, hearty dish only a shaggy-dog
few couldn't love."

"Screaming
red walls and fan-shaped, glass-art sconces echo the Deep Ellum original. But
this outpost is more spacious, with its high ceiling and large gold
banquettes....With so much emphasis on sight and sound, it would not be
unexpected for Aca y Alla to slack on food. But that's never been restaurateur
Monica Greene's style. The menu ranges from classic Tex-Mex to nuevo Mexican,
with something for everyone."
